Dorothea Hellenthal is the head of the department of Gender and Diversity.
Even at Göttingen University, students encounter sexism and discrimination. Women, for example, are still drastically underrepresented in the university’s administration as well as amongst professors. Gender identities outside of the outdated binary system are often forgotten and lack representation. There are, for example, still almost no gender-neutral bathrooms, the legal procedures to change one’s name are still unnecessarily complicated and the university’s trans-counselling was even discontinued completely.
We want to overcome those problems and improve the study conditions for women in general, for lesbians, for nonbinary people, and for trans- and intersexuals. We should all feel responsible to fight sexism, homophobia and transphobia wherever we encounter it – in smearings, attacks, or discriminatory behaviour of all kinds.
