In recent weeks, against the backdrop of the war between Israel and Hamas, there has been an increase in anti-Semitic and violence-glorifying graffiti and posters on the central campus. These include calls for intifada, red Hamas triangles and slogans such as “from the river to the sea”, which deny Israel’s right to exist as a safe haven for Jewish life. The intifada is historically inextricably linked to terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians. Red triangles are a positive reference to the anti-Semitic terrorist organisation Hamas, which uses them to mark Jewish enemies. Such graffiti and posters create a space of fear for Jews, Israelis and others associated with Israel.
Furthermore, in this context, defamatory posters and graffiti were displayed against members and bodies of the student body, both on campus and directly on the AStA building. In this context, an assault also took place in front of the AStA building.
As AStA, we are firmly opposed to all forms of anti-Semitism, the glorification of violence and the creation of such a threatening atmosphere.
In light of recent weeks and months, we would also like to explicitly highlight the services offered by Psychosocial Counselling (PSB) and the Psychotherapeutic Outpatient Clinic for Students (PAS). Anyone affected in any way by local and global events will find a sympathetic ear and support there.
