Bike broken? Drop by – with our help, you fix it yourself, free of charge.

What we do

In cooperation with the university group Studentische Fahrradwerkstatt Göttingen (Student Bicycle Workshop Göttingen), we run a volunteer self-help bike workshop: you bring the bike, we bring the tools, the know-how, and a helping hand. We wrench together under guidance – so that next time you have a flat, you’ll know what to do.

• Primarily for students of the University of Göttingen
• But open to everyone from Göttingen and the surrounding area
• Volunteer-run, free of charge, non-profit

When & Where

📅 Regular hours: Wednesdays 5–9 pm (last sign-in: 8:15 pm)

📍 Address: AStA building, Goßlerstraße 16a, 37073 Göttingen – in the basement

⏱ Busy times: It’s pretty busy with us at the moment – please allow some waiting time.

What does it cost?

We’re a volunteer university group and we operate non-profit. Materials, tools, and coffee are funded as follows:

• Help & tools: Free of charge – a donation into the kitty 💛 is hugely appreciated, though
• Spare parts: At cost price, cash – we earn nothing from them
• Every donation goes 1 : 1 back into parts, tools, and the team

Please bring

• 🚲 Your bike – ideally with a quick description of the problem
• 🪪 Students: your student ID for sign-in
• 🌐 Not a student? No worries – just talk to us and we’ll sign you in via a short form
• ⏳ A bit of time and patience – we’re not a 7-minute pit stop

Liability & guarantee

Because you fix the bike yourself here, the outcome is also in your hands. We advise, guide, and provide the tools – but we can’t replace a professional workshop and don’t give a guarantee on the repair.

Our recommendation: Before your first ride, do a short stationary and slow test of the bike. For safety-critical parts (brakes, handlebars, front wheel) we’re happy to take a second look together.

Got bikes or parts to spare?

Got an old bike, a frame, or some components gathering dust in the basement, garage, or dorm? We’d love material donations – working bikes get a second life with us, broken parts go into our spares store.

Please drop us a line first: Send a quick message describing what you’ve got (photos help). We can’t take everything – workshop and storage space are limited – but we’ll look at every offer and get back to you.
