Counselling for trans* people

As the AStA, issues of gender & diversity are of particular importance to us.

Students at the University of Göttingen are affected by sexism and discrimination just like every other segment of society. For example, women* are significantly underrepresented in the allocation of professorships and also in the university’s administration. Gender identities beyond the outdated binary system are usually not considered at all, or only very marginally. For example, there are still hardly any all-gender toilets, there are still obstacles for changing one’s name in official university documents, and the trans* counselling at the university has recently been discontinued.

We want to fight these and many other problems consistently and improve the study conditions for women*, lesbians, nonbinaries, trans* and intersex persons.
It should be the task of all of us to take a stand against sexism, homophobia and transphobia at the university and to fight them consistently, whether they appear in the form of transphobic graffiti, sexist attacks or discriminatory treatment.

If you have any questions, you can always contact us by email.

Counselling services

After the university’s project to support trans* students was not extended and therefore no longer exists, there is now a self-organised peer-to-peer trans* counselling for students provided by the AStA.
Do you have problems or questions about your transition? Is there a problem with teachers or fellow students? Do you just want to have a chat? Then send us an email and we’ll make an appointment!
Due to the current situation, consultations take place online. However, there is also the option to do a counselling walk-in where we can talk in person with distance and masks!
You can reach us here.
We look forward to seeing you!

Domestic Violence & Covid- 19

In times of coronavirus, we should all stay at home if possible. But home can also become, or already be, a place of violence. Many, especially women and children, are affected by domestic violence. But how can we ensure the protection of those affected and where can you get help if you are affected?

You can find more information in this flyer: Help with domestic violence.
