Studying with a child

Parent-Child-Café

Our parent-child cafés offer a space to get to know each other, exchange ideas and network.

In addition to games and fun for the children, you have the opportunity to share experiences with each other, ask questions or simply chat with each other.

We will let you know when the next meeting will take place in the AStA newsletter as well as on Facebook and Instagram

Scholarship for students with child(ren)

The Soltenborn Foundation awards scholarships of 208€ per month for students with child(ren) at the Faculty of Medicine, Law, Theology and Philosophy. The funding is initially awarded for one year, but can be extended. Only students who belong to the Protestant Church or are persons of Jewish faith are eligible for funding. In addition, it is required to be resident in the territory of the former Kingdom of Hanover for at least 8 years.

Further scholarships can be found here.

Parent-Child-Rooms

Would you like to study in the library and take your child(ren) with you?

There are child-friendly rooms in the SUB and the LSG that can be booked after a one-time application. The LSG also offers Learning Saturdays, where your child(ren) (3 months – 10 years old) are cared for by a qualified caregiver from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. while you study in peace.

To register for this, please contact Family Services by email.

Parent-child rooms are also available in other libraries such as the KWZ, the WiSo Library and the Departmental Library. In addition, many faculties offer additional parent-child rooms that you can use.

Networking

In addition to our parent-child cafés, there are other ways in which you can network with other students with children, e.g. through the AStA’s annual children’s festival or through the tandem program for students with and without children. On Stud.IP you will find a group “Studieren mit Kind”, where you can exchange information and arrange meetings with other students. There is also an open Facebook group from the Family Service “Studieren mit Kind an der Uni Göttingen” where you can access information even if you do not have a Facebook account. Alternatively, you can sign up for the e-mail distribution list of the Family Service and receive the latest information.

You can find more detailed information about studying with children and other offers, such as the MensaKidsCard, on the information portal: Studieren mit Kind(ern).

If you have any questions or problems, the Family Service, the Equal Opportunity Commissioner of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Social Service of the Studentenwerk and the Social Counseling of the AStA will support you.
