All students at the University of Göttingen have a culture semester ticket, or culture ticket for short. In the form of your student ID, this offers you free or greatly reduced admission to various events at the numerous cultural institutions in Göttingen. The exact conditions of the individual facilities can be found below. In total, the culture ticket costs you € 11.14 each in the winter semester 2022/23 and in the summer semester 2023, which you pay automatically with the semester fee when you enroll or re-register.
In January you will then have the opportunity to decide on the cultural semester ticket in the annual ballot. The AStA will provide you with the best negotiated price-performance ratio with the cultural institutions for coordination.

There are many ways to find out about events included in the Kulturticket: The Kulturbüro Göttingen has set up an overview of Kulturticket events on its website. If not all events of the participating cultural institutions are included in the Kulturticket, the institutions usually indicate Kulturticket events on their homepages (see below); in some cases, small Kulturticket logos are also printed on posters & flyers. Questions about the culture ticket
How do I get a culture ticket?
You will have the culture ticket as soon as your student ID is validly validated. This means that your student ID has the print “Valid until dd.mm.20yy – semester ticket”.
How do I get reduced or free admission with the culture ticket?
Normally, you will receive reduced or free admission directly at the box office if you show your valid student ID. If you reserve tickets online in advance, for example, you have the option of selecting the “Kulturticket” price class there. At the entrance you have to show your valid student ID to verify the ticket.

How many seats are reserved for the culture ticket?
Usually, the remaining places at the box office are distributed to students with a culture ticket. In individual cases, a certain contingent of seats (BG Göttingen) is reserved for the culture ticket. In both cases, the “first come, first served” principle applies.
Can you also use the culture ticket if you are on leave?
No, as students on leave do not have a culture ticket. Caution is advised when extending your student ID before the start of the semester in which you want to take a leave of absence: When the student ID is printed, the imprint of the semester ticket is deleted so that the student ID can no longer be used. Therefore, it is best to have your student ID extended shortly before the start of the vacation semester.
What does the culture ticket cost me?
The Kulturticket will cost you 11.52€ in both the winter semester 2024/25 and the summer semester 2025. These amounts are included in your enrolment or re-registration fee.
Can I have my semester ticket refunded?
The culture ticket cannot be refunded in cases of severe disability or double enrollment. An application for reimbursement can only be submitted together with the train and bus semester ticket in cases of social hardship.
